I'm not a person who liberally (and irresponsibly) uses exclamation points, so the fact that I'm using six in the headline should tell you how excited I am. Just in case it wasn't clear, however, let me say I AM SO EXCITED. Undecided is a labour of love, my first venture into self-publishing, the first time I've ever been responsible for every single aspect of a book, from the cover to the editing and the layout, the copy, the marketing, the everything. Oh, and y'know - the writing.

It's also my first foray into New Adult Romance, which was something I was hesitant to do since you're supposed to read widely within your genre, and well... I don't really like New Adult. Which is not to say there aren't some great ones out there, I just burned out very quickly on the ones I did read, tired of the sameness of the stories. I'm not a reader who discovers she likes books about lion tamers then buys seven more books about lion tamers. (*makes note to write book about lion tamer*) When I first got the idea to write Undecided, I shelved it, thinking I liked the concept but the genre...not so much. Then I had another idea and another idea and pretty soon I was opening a new Word doc and typing a few sentences. Just a few, really. I wasn't actually going to do this. Because...New Adult, right? Not for me!

But some stories stick, and when you're fortunate enough to have one that simply wants to be written, well, you write it. And then, if you're lucky, you fall in love with it. And I got very lucky with this one. Thank goodness for that, since I have combed through this thing approximately four hundred times, looking for misplaced commas, typos, repeated words, jokes that fell flat (*ahem* they were all great), and countless other things that cropped up on each new read. There's no way I could have done this for a story that didn't mean so much to me. It's a venture in tone from my other books - a little bit lighter, with a hero I think is my sweetest to date. Which is interesting, because when I read reviews of books and people say things like, "This hero is adorable!" I'm not exactly one-clicking. Plus, I thought Eli from In Her Defense was a sweetheart and well...some people have very vocally disagreed. So fine. I don't know what people like. I know what I like, and I like this story. And now here it is, ready and waiting. Finally.

Part of my procrastination technique is to spend time googling pictures of my characters until I find *just* the right one. I tell myself this technically counts as writing time, even though it's not actually writing, it's just...time. Still, these are the pictures I referenced when writing Undecided. David Pocock's worth a google, y'all!

Kellan McVey

I saw Robbie Amell in The Duff and thought he was the perfect Kellan. Hot, fit, and super charismatic - who wouldn't want him? (Oh, that's right - Nora. heh heh)
Nora Kincaid
This picture of Rachel Bilson is exactly Nora. She looks deceptively sweet & innocent, but that look in her eye says she sees right through you and knows how to give as good as she gets.
Crosbie Lucas
David Pocock is an Australian rugby player and this picture is the ideal blend of brawny but sweet. I found a few other photos that showcased his mucles better, but I'll keep those for myself.
Nora Kincaid has one goal for her second year of college: be invisible. Last year’s all-party-no-study strategy resulted in three failed classes and two criminal charges, and if she messes up again she’ll lose her scholarship. But there’s one problem with her plan for invisibility, and his name is Crosbie Lucas: infamous party king, general hellraiser…and her new roommate’s best friend.
Crosbie’s reckless reputation and well-known sexcapades aren’t part of Nora’s studious new strategy, but as she’s quickly learning, her new plan is also really boring. When Crosbie’s unexpected gestures of friendship pull her head out of her books long enough to see past his cocky veneer, she’s surprised to find a flawed and funny guy beneath it all. The muscles don’t hurt, either.
But as Nora starts to fall for Crosbie, the weight of one of last year’s bad decisions grows even heavier. Because three failing grades and two misdemeanors are nothing compared to the one big secret she’s hiding…

The Good Fight, Book 3 in the Time Served Series, releases in late July 2016. I should have a cover and blurb available to share soon! It features Oscar from Time Served and Susan (Caitlin's sister) from In Her Defense. Oscar's a former fighter who returns to his rundown hometown, falls for Susan, and gets the fight of his life.

I'm currently about 30% into a brand new standalone story. It's a darker romance with a strong mystery element (but it's not romantic suspense) with an angry, depressed and hilarious heroine who's convinced everybody's lying - and she's not always wrong.

Once that's wrapped up I hope to start working on Kellan's story. I've already got the title and cover planned out, I'm just making story notes so I can make his HEA as well-deserved as Crosbie & Nora's. In a perfect world, this book will be ready by Christmas.

To thank you all for reading this far, I've prepared two super awesome prize packs for two lucky readers. Simply reply to this email with "I've decided I want to win!" in the subject line and I'll enter you in the draw. Winner 1 gets the big pack, Winner 2 gets the smaller one. I'll do the draw on Friday, April 8, 2016, and I'll send the prizes anywhere in the world. Prize pics & details can be found here.
