Area engineer and Ascension Public Schools graduate, Alsie Dunbar (left), poses with students for a photo at the first meeting of STEM Gems at Gonzales Primary School. STEM Gems is a mentoring program for young girls identified as high achievers in math and science.  Dunbar piloted the program in 2014 at Gonzales Middle and Donaldsonville High.  This year, she is working with Gonzales Primary and Pecan Grove Primary.  Click here to learn more about the program.

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT

 
"Take Back the Night" in Ascension Parish will take place on Monday October 26 at 6:00 PM at The Jambalaya Park in Gonzales.  A march from the Ascension Parish court house on Irma Boulevard to the Jambalaya Park is slated for 5:30 p.m. prior to the ceremony.  

Below is a summary of participation from our high schools.  (Donaldsonville High cannot come this year due to homecoming activities.)

St Amant High JrROTC:
  • Presentation of Colors to open the ceremony
Dutchtown High Band:
  • Play a few selections before ceremony
  • National Anthem during the Presentation of Colors
  • Taps during Memorial of Names
  • Selection during the ceremony
East Ascension High Interact Club:
  • Set up tables and chairs before ceremony
  • Hand out Programs and Placards
  • Lead Pledge of Allegiance  
  • Participate in Remembrance Ceremony (read from script)
  • Help pick up chairs and tables after ceremony

STEM PROGRAM AT LAKE ELEMENTARY

On Friday, Oct. 16th, students at Lake Elementary participated in various Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) exercises by grade level.  From building a working ferry boat out of recycled materials to simulated oil spill cleanups and shelter building, the students applied classroom lessons in hands-on team activities.  See some of the photos below.
