WCA Update March 2021

2021 is shaping up to be an exciting year. While not “normal” as we used to know it, there are enough positive signs to give the industry reason to be optimistic.
One of those signs is the return of the Royal Wine Show Lunch Series. Once again, Wine Communicators of Australia is delighted to be partnering with the respective Royal Agricultural Societies to celebrate excellence in winemaking. Make sure you’ve saved the dates – Friday 6thAugust in Sydney and Friday 8th October in Adelaide. We will advise date for Melbourne shortly. 
Another exciting piece of news is the upcoming launch of the Wine Industry Mentor Program for 2021. With help from industry partners, this program is being expanded to increase the opportunity for people early in their wine careers to learn from some of the industry’s best. Watch this space over the coming weeks for further details on this world-class initiative.
On a personal level, I am hugely grateful for the support and goodwill that the wine community has shown towards Wine Communicators. A universal theme from my first few weeks has been the recognition for the work that WCA does in helping to build industry collaboration and members’ skills, which is a testament to the organisation that I’ve recently joined. I look forward to working with all of you to help tell the great stories that exist in our community, as well as thanking the previous EO, Lynda Schenk, and of course the indefatigable Prue Kline, as well as the Board and our state chapters who all do so much to contribute.

Musical trends come and go. Like novelty songs. For example, back in 1993, Macarena by Los Del Rio went to number one in many countries in the world, except Canada where it only reached number 16. If you think this means that Canadians have better musical taste than other nationalities, then you would be wrong because in 2005 they sent Axel F by Crazy Frog to number one. Crazy Frog should be given some kudos because he beat out Coldplay to the number one spot in the UK. Thank you, Crazy Frog.
One musical trend that never goes out of fashion is the simple combination of guitar, bass and drums. For example, Sharon Van Etten and Rowland S Howard produce amazing music with those three instruments.
