Dear Friend:

Well, the dust has finally settled after the August primary and moderates won BIG in Kansas! Editorials trumpeting the sweep have appeared in newspapers across the state and across the country in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and even Esquire! It’s been grand!
But, our big win couldn’t have happened without the hard work of so many people. To all of the amazing women behind the grassroots organization Stand Up Blue Valley, to the folks at Johnson County Educators, Women for Kansas, Mainstream Coalition, Save Kansas Coalition, and many others ~ THANK YOU!
  • Thank you for working day and night to educate our friends and neighbors about the importance of this election.
  • Thank you for standing up for our schools, our courts, our infrastructure, and our way of life in Kansas.
  • And, thank you for standing up to incumbents who just didn’t care about listening to the voices of those they were elected to serve.

Many of those incumbents were swept out of office in one of the biggest upsets in my recent memory. And that could not have happened without every single one of these organizations who worked to educate, inform and motivate voters across the state.

Many individuals also worked day after day over the past several months to help all of the winning candidates. My campaign committee was stellar!! You know who you are! And, our interns never stopped working. They pushed us till the very end. Friends, family members, and neighbors who believed that we deserved better representation in Kansas and were willing to roll up their sleeves and work for change. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work!
I would also like to thank my opponent, Jerry Lunn, for his service to our state; I wish him well in his future endeavors.

Election night was a big night for me and my family! It was amazing to have my parents Glenn and Carol Barclay, and my sister Glenda, in town to celebrate my victory! Stewart’s brother Gary and his girlfriend Wendy flew in from Florida. Our daughter Natalie, her husband Thom, and our two grandkids also stayed close by to watch the returns throughout the evening. Friends and supporters also joined in the watch party and found ways to celebrate with us all night long. And of course, my husband Stewart never left my side, as has been the case for over 38 years! It was just an amazing evening and I can’t thank everyone enough for making it all possible and sharing it with me!

Over the past few months I have had the privilege of working with many of the candidates who were victorious on Tuesday. Congratulations to John Skubal, Dinah Sykes, Jan Kessenger, Patty Markley, Shelee Brim and Tom Cox – all will go on to compete in the November election.  You can be sure I will be out helping these great candidates and others over the next three months so that we can win on November 8th! We have a great group of moderates already fighting the good fight in Topeka and we all hope to join them in January!

While the primary race was a battle well fought and won, there is
still much work ahead as we prepare for the general election in November. I don’t have an opponent in the general election, but I will all be working hard to make sure we continue on the path to turn things around in Kansas.
Ultimately, however, it’s up to YOU the voters to make your voices heard at the ballot box on November 8th. So, stay informed and engaged. We need you with us all the way!!

Rest up for now, we still have work to do!
