As a Representative, we often passed great legislation, but consistently found ourselves blocked by the Senate. Kansas needs pragmatists who will be bi-partisan and willing to compromise to move important issues forward rather than ideologues who would rather see the state burn than compromise. Over the past year, many constituents and community leaders encouraged me to run for this, so I decided to file early to end speculation,” Cox said.
“Senator Pilcher-Cook has consistently voted against funding our public schools, supported destructive budget cuts and the failed 2012 tax experiment, and has been one of the leaders in blocking Medicaid Expansion. She consistently refuses to participate in any public town halls and regularly refuses to meet with constituents at home and in Topeka,” Cox added.

Cox will remain focused on serving the 17th House District through the remainder of his term, part of which overlaps with the 10th Senate District.
Rep. Cox is a Shawnee native, and an alum of Benninghoven, Trailridge, and Shawnee Mission Northwest public schools, as well as the University of Kansas. He has a well-established bi-partisan voting record in support of increasing public school funding, stabilizing the budget, restoring highway funds, passing Medicaid Expansion, as well as a strong pro-life record.
The 10th Senate District includes all of Shawnee, Lake Quivira, most of Merriam and a few blocks of Overland Park (see map). The General Election will be on November 5, 2020.
