We are excited to share with you the updated timeline for students returning to 110 Champion Way. Along with the Road to Reopen Task Force, our leadership team has been hard at work planning and preparing for students to return to school. In this communication you can expect to find an updated timeline, more detailed information about virtual and in-person instruction, and our COVID-19 Data Dashboard. As always, we will continue to monitor COVID-19 data and guidelines weekly and may adjust these dates and plans accordingly.
Please take a moment to watch this Road to Reopen Update from Jenn Townley, IC Imagine's Head of School.
Road to Reopen Update, Jenn Townley
If you opt into virtual instruction for your student moving forward, we wanted to give you a few more details about what to expect. Last week, we had not finalized our plans and did not feel like we could share many details with you. We still need final numbers of students enrolled in each scenario to fully plan for each, but at this point we can give you more information.
In Lower School, students that opt for virtual learning will continue with the schedule they have been following including all changes we implement based on the survey feedback. Each Lower School grade level team will have a designated virtual teacher that will provide instruction for the virtual students. This model is the most developmentally appropriate scenario for our K-5 students.
In Middle and Upper School, we are working with the Road to Reopen Task Force and our Information Technology consultants to update our infrastructure in order to allow our Middle and Upper School teachers to live stream their classes. This will allow us to nearly double the amount of synchronous instruction for our students in grades 6-12. Making this shift will allow us to ensure that students have the same experience whether or not they are in person.
In Person Instruction
Please note that we are reopening school under Plan B, Option B. This requires that we conduct symptom screenings (including temperature checks) of every person that enters our building, require that face masks be worn by every person entering our building, and maintain physical distancing of six feet or more at all times. We have installed hand sanitizing stations at all entrances and exits and will be requiring frequent hand washing for students and staff throughout the day.
Students will attend school in cohorts to allow for reduced numbers of students in the building each day. More details will be coming after Fall Break with assigned cohorts for students committed to in person instruction.
We will also be altering the daily and weekly schedules to accommodate all of the learning scenarios that are occurring throughout our school community. We are continuing to finalize all of the details of the schedule but be prepared for our arrival and dismissal windows to be more spaced out in order to allow for symptom screening and physical distancing. More details regarding the daily schedule will be sent out after Fall Break.
Virtual or In-Person Enrollment Commitment
In order to inform our plans, please make sure that you have responded to our Virtual or In-Person Enrollment Commitment Form Fall Semester. It is imperative that we receive a response from every family in order to account for all students in our reopening plans. Since 40% of our families continue to be concerned about an in-person return to school with so many unknowns about COVID-19, we will be continuing to offer a virtual option for any family who wishes to complete all their assignments from home. Please note that if you have not responded to this survey by tomorrow, Friday, September 25, you will receive phone and/or email contact from the school until the survey is complete.
This information will be used to inform our decisions and guide the school's reopening plans. All families, regardless of any previous enrollment in virtual learning, must respond to this survey and commit to either virtual learning or a return to in-person instruction under any model.
Please note, that if you choose in-person instruction for your family on our enrollment survey and it turns out not to be the best fit, you will be able to switch to virtual instruction. Please note that you will not be able to switch the other way (from virtual to in person). If you elect to be virtual, you are committing until 1.29.21.
Below, you will find our COVID-19 Dashboard. This Dashboard will be updated weekly on Tuesdays. You will be able to access this information via our website.
