Let's Open MONDO - our first building

The past few weeks have been very difficult for the DIY communities both nationally and here in Baltimore - from the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland to the shutting down of DIY spaces across the US to the sudden evicting of artists at the Bell Foundry last week in Baltimore. We need more spaces for uninhibited art not less. The Le Mondo project becomes more and more relevant politically and culturally in these trying times when beloved underground art spaces in Baltimore are being threatened due to socioeconomic circumstances beyond their control.

In a bit of light at the end of last week, Le Mondo, along our neighbors Current Space, was awarded grants from the state of Maryland to help facilitate the restoration and stabilization of our three historic buildings on Howard Street. This is a huge step forward for our progress, empowering the Baltimore arts community, and toward bringing these buildings back to life for the neighborhood.

We are now imminently close to opening our first venue, MONDO - a neighborhood bar, 350-person flexible performance venue, and affordable artist studio space.

We want to open MONDO by March 2017. To make this a reality, join us as we raise $60,000 to finish crucial renovations to the space (such as fire sprinklers, bar outfitting, and lighting) and help support operations and programming as we open for seven nights a week.
