Gayle Reichelt Art Newsletter 5

Hello again.  I can't believe it is August already - the year has gone so fast and so much has happened.

My solo exhibition at the Arts Cafe, Gold Coast City Gallery, 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise was hung on 31st July and will continue until 28th August 2015.

The image in my header is called Floating Kelp Beds and is one the images in the exhibition.  There are ten encaustic images in this exhibition, and you can see them in my blog dated 3/8/2015 in my website

I hope that some of you will be able to visit the Arts Cafe and see these images.

Below are a couple of images of me in front of some of my paintings in this exhibition.
Border Art Prize 2015

My encaustic image - HMQS Gayundah - The Final Port is hanging in the Border Art Prize 2015 at the Gold Coast City Gallery which is currently showing and will continue until 6th September 2015.

There are about 350 paintings in this exhibition - all of very high standard, so it is thrill to have my work included in this prestigious exhibition.

Following my exhibition at the Arts Cafe, my husband John has been offered a one month exhibition of some of his astronomy images - also at the Arts Cafe.    They will be printed on face mounted acrylic and look sensational.

John is a scientist with a PhD in Microbiology and an interest in astrophotography as a hobby.  As this will be the very first time that John has exhibited any of his work, this exhibition will launch him as a photographic artist.  But be assured it will not be his last as he has many beautiful images to show, and I will be urging him to enter his beautiful works in future photographic competitions.

Below is just one of the fabulous images that John will be exhibiting in the Arts Cafe.  It shows two areas in space where baby stars are forming:  the Horsehead Nebula and the Flame Nebula.  "Nebula" means a cloud in space.

Make sure you mark September into your calendar to come to the Arts Cafe to see these these lovely images.   They will all be available for purchase.

The planned Collaboration Series of John's and my work is progressing.   More news about that at a later date.

The Astronomy Ap for iPads will be released soon.   There has been a slight delay in launching this as John's company BacFerm is in the process on obtaining and fitting out new premises for their lab.

Exhibition of artworks - Just Beneath the Surface
Petrie Terrace Gallery,  162 Petrie Terrace, Brisbane
An exhibition of my works with Bronwyn Doherty called "Just Beneath the Surface" will be held at Petrie Terrace Gallery in Brisbane from 13th October 2015 until 24th October 2015.  Opening night will be 14th October 7.00pm for 7.30pm.   Below is the flyer advertising the exhibition.

I hope that some of you might be able to make it to the opening - or to the exhibition in the following two weeks.

Work is progressing for my shipwreck exhibition that will be held at the Gold Coast City Gallery in February and March 2016.

Below is my pencil drawing -  a panoramic version Gayundah, that I will be painting onto the huge 2 metre x 1.5 metre canvas.  This is almost as big as the largest painting that I have ever done. The largest was 8' x 8' (or 2.4384 metres x 2.4384) that I completed whilst at uni in 1994. I then photographed my drawing, downloaded it into my computer, projected the image onto my canvas and traced the outline.

I have started the painting, but it is not at a stage that I want to show anyone just yet. Perhaps next newsletter.....
Photo on the left showing the image being projected onto the canvas from my computer.  The photo on the right shows me tracing my drawing onto the canvas - ready for painting.
