The name ‘Africa’ is derived from Greek and Latin words that highlight the continent’s sunny and warm climate (the Greek word aphrike, meaning without cold; or the Latin word aprica, meaning sunny...).

Introducing Our New CEO

We are proud to announce that Kim Becker has taken over as CEO for AMS, having just returned from an assignment running a large relocation company in India for three years. Prior to that, Kim was responsible for running a large Mobility company in Southern Africa for eight years. Kim has seventeen years of experience in running relocation and moving companies.

I am pleased to be part of the
AMS business; we have had busy
months, preparing our new budget
as well as expansion plans for
this year. Our objective is simple
– to ensure that feeling of home
in Africa for our assignees.”

Good Day, and Welcome to Africa!

Africa is known as the continent that cradled life itself, being home of the first human beings. Today, it is the second largest and second most populous continent. Despite difficult weather conditions, millions of people migrate to Africa, the main attraction being the amazing natural recourses and rich history.

Did you know… That South Africans are proud to call themselves a multi-ethnic society? Most locals have the blood of several nationalities and races. The country, for example, is home to about 2 million Asians. Their ancestors mostly come from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, The Maldives and Sri Lanka.
South Africa counts 11 official languages: Afrikaans, English, Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Wenda, Xhosa and Zulu. This is also why the country has 11 official names. It’s interesting to know, that most locals know at least 3 different languages. English is one of the most common and is used by more than half the country’s population.
Such a variety of cultures and big migration flow also means that moving and relocation is a big part of life for people moving to, from and across South Africa. Sure, moving, migration and relocation may seem like a hassle, but it really doesn’t have to be! The solution to stress-free relocation is AMS.

We’re Growing…

…and excited about the progress we’ve made in building our new warehouse, which is situated on the outskirts of Luanda. The main advantage is the strategic location of the warehouse, which is close to the city, the harbor and airport. Paul Waller, Chief Operating Officer, is driving the development of the warehouse that should be complete before the end of the American and European summer.

In addition, AMS has its coordination, administration and finance support based in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, which spans the infrastructure of AMS over half of the African Continent.

Discovering Mozambique and Its Market Opportunities

This month, our executives visited Mozambique with the objective of appointing a new member to the AMS team in Africa. Mozambique is a large market for the energy sector, very similar to the market in Angola.
We also evaluated the SOLAS capability of the port in Maputo, and are pleased to confirm that the region is compliant with the regulations, with the system working very efficiently even outside of Maputo. It is interesting that the government of Mozambique had requested all export shipments be sent out of the Beira port, which was changed back to Maputo – logistically it is easier for the businesses in Maputo to use Maputo as the major port for exports and imports.
Images from our road trip.
It is encouraging to see how the city of Maputo is developing – traditionally very busy traffic in the business sector, the roads and infrastructure are relatively well-kept. There is a number of police road blocks, specifically checking on trucks and vehicles with trailers.

Mozambique is very well known for its beautiful beaches, islands off their coast and is a very popular holiday destination to visit during the months November to January every year.
