Dutiful Dog Owners Welcome

Kudos to all of you who consistently pick up after your pets!  Your stewardship of the trail and its adjacent watershed is awesome. It would be wonderful if all trail users would follow your example.

Here's the predicament: Dogs typically head off the trail to deposit their waste on the ground. Unfortunately, their humans can be tempted to ignore it and leave it there. Dog waste left anywhere is more than just an "ick" factor. It's now the 3rd leading cause of water pollution and has the potential to spread disease as it accumulates along the trail day after day. Folks who think if's OK to leave dog waste if it's not actually on the path are wrong.

What to do: Picking up after your dog is made easier by the plastic bags that volunteers stock in special containers near trail entrances, and by the trash cans along the trail. But, it's always good to bring an emergency supply of bags with you - just in case - and dispose of the filled bags properly.
Please remember: Leaving dog waste - bagged or not - along the trail is littering. And it's definitely not cool to be a litterer - as any FOMRRT volunteer who has dealt with piles of dog waste can tell you.

You'll find these near three of the trail's entrances. Please take one for your dog's waste, and follow through by dropping it in a trash can. Thank You!
