Jennifer Shuey, Artist

Jennifer became the Director of Development for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in 2015.  Prior to that, she served as the Executive Director of ClearWater Conservancy of Central Pennsylvania for nearly fifteen years.  Jen is a native of Centre County.  She holds a B. S. of Landscape Architecture from Penn State University and is committed to using her time and talents to make her community a better place.  She is particularly interested in conserving the beautiful natural landscapes of central Pennsylvania and engaging more people in the protection of land and water resources through her art.

Jennifer began exploring her creative side through an oil painting class at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.  Later at an artist's retreat at Hameau Farm, Jennifer borrowed some pastels, experimented with this tactile medium, and fell in love with its ability to quickly capture the beauty and character of the natural landscape.  Pastels are vibrant and spontaneous, and working with them gives Jen an almost meditative creative outlet that is a good balance with her work in fundraising and outreach.
Jennifer is a Signature Member of the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society, is the Secretary and Centre Country Farmland Trust Liaison of the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania, and is on the Artist Registry at the Bellefonte Art Museum.  She has also served on the Board of the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.  Recent exhibitions that have included Jennifer's work have been found at the HUB Gallery at Penn State, the Schlow Centre Region Library, the Art Alliance in Lemont, the Green Drake Gallery in Millheim, the Bellefonte Art Museum, and the Mount Nittany Medical Center

 Member News

Donna Mitchell recently attended "The Painterly Portrait" Workshop given by internationally  renowned portrait artist, Alain Picard, in Newtown, CT.  The focus of this workshop was to learn how to light, pose and photograph a live model. The study covered explanations of pastel portrait techniques for creating accurate likeness, establishing values, evaluating color relationships and selecting skin tones, developing a painterly style, and harnessing the power of strong design. It was an excellent time of learning and improving my skills.

Donna's three entries were juried into the Perry County Council of the Arts in Newport, PA, and her painting entitled "Rachel" was awarded 1st place. Congratulations!

GALLERY 50 in Waynesboro, PA is currently featuring 7 of Donna's animal paintings in the themed exhibit, "Fins, Feathers and Fur".

Donna also gives private lessons.  If you are interested, call 1-717-258-0459.  One of Donna's students recently won 2nd place in an international youth competition.
