"You have to recognise the fact that when everyone is happy, your happiness is there too. If you want to be happy, you have to make others happy. You can become brothers in the true sense only when you can derive joy from others’ success. Sharing others’ sorrows and joys is the nature of true brotherhood. Developing the feeling of Brotherhood of Man and Fatherhood of God is real brotherhood. Love gives and forgives. Self gets and forgets. Whatever others may do, we have to follow our dharma. It is better that we die practising our dharma than following somebody else’s dharma. Only when you practise the dharma of selfless love, you can call yourself human beings."                                                                                                                                                                                 - Baba
With the Blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, we are delighted to present our twenty seventh issue of Ananda Vahini. The weekly newsletter includes interesting musings and short excerpts from the week's events.

In this week's issue, we bring you highlights from the last day of the Lord's trip to Alike followed by His visit to the Gulbarga campus for the inauguration of the new boys' hostel and finally culminating in the satsang at Muddenahalli.

Day 03 - June 01, 2016

Day Three – 01 June, 2016

Bhagawan reminded everyone that God was everyone, and one cannot confine God to one place or other. He cautioned everyone that reducing God to just another human being is forgetting His true nature, and this can only be attributed to one’s faulty eyesight. Similarly, to think that Swami has left us is to look at things in a limited way. “So it all depends on us and not God. One has to purify one’s thoughts, feelings and tune it towards God.” If one has devotion, one can achieve anything – like the girl in the parable who asked for the hand of the prince in marriage, and thus attained the whole kingdom. “Devotion is pure selfless love for God.” He advised the students to develop and practice good habits at this early stage, as it is difficult to do so when one grows up.

Day One - June 02, 2016

It was a day of travel. Reaching Alike to Gulbarga, both situated in Karnataka, was not an easy task! Bhagawan’s entourage started from Alike in the wee hours of the morning, much before dawn, to Mangalore Airport. Thanks to the flight connectivity, the entourage had to fly from Mangalore to Bangalore, and then to Hyderabad. From Hyderabad, they reached Gulbarga by road at around 7pm in the evening. Students were neatly lined up, chanting Vedas to welcome their dear Lord and His guests.

After a quick refreshment, everyone made their way to ‘Ananda Nilayam’. Swami’s residence is situated right in the centre of this pentagon shaped school building. It is very unique as Swami lives right in the midst of His only property, His students!

Swami named the magnificent architectural marvel, ‘Ananda Nilayam’ two years ago, during the grand inauguration. Swami’s room is on the Mezzanine floor. The students take care of Swami’s needs everyday and they do it with much devotion. And why not? For they truly believe that Swami stays there and experiences all that is offered to Him. Swami called Sri B N Narasimha Murthy, spoke to him about the preparations for the grand inauguration of the Sri Sathya Sai Saraswati Boys Hostel, the next morning. This hostel currently is the largest hostel ever built by Swami, even bigger than those in Anantapur, Prasanthi Nilayam or Brindavan.

Divine Visit to Gulbarga Campus

Day Two – June 03, 2016 (Morning)

An early start to the day witnessed a confluence of students, staff, devotees from surrounding areas and alumni of the campus, at the Sri Sathya Sai Vidyaniketanam, the very first school campus inaugurated in November 2012 by the Lord, after He left His mortal coil. There was a festive vibe in the air and the Sri Sathya Sai Saraswati Boys Hostel, the new building ready to be inaugurated by Bhagawan, seemed to gleam with delight! Both the magnificent edifices, the Sri Sathya Sai Vidyaniketanam and the Sri Sathya Sai Saraswati Boys Hostel, stand testimony to the continuing mission of Bhagawan. Can mere mortals plan, build and execute these architectural marvels in a time frame of 10 months?! Possible only with Divine intervention, and of course the added blessing of direct Divine presence!

Soon after breakfast, the Lord was all set to reach the venue set for the grand inauguration. Bhagawan reached the Hostel building amidst Veda chanting by the students. The Vice Chancellor of the Central University, Gulbarga, Prof H M Maheshwaraiah was present as a special Guest of Honour at the event. He cut the ribbon, unveiled the plaque and formally inaugurated the hostel building, in the Divine Presence.

Swami, along with the guests walked through the corridors of the hostel building, and even entered one of the rooms to check if everything was in order. He was glad and commented that, such a big hostel building is not there elsewhere! When some wondered as to why a place like Gulbarga would need such a large hostel, Swami in His indomitable style revealed, “There is a master plan, and whatever is built now, must last 50 years or more. There is much more to what we witness presently.” Swami has always reminded everyone, “Don’t question me, simply follow!”

Day Two – June 03, 2016 (Evening)

Swami in His discourse spoke about the six qualities that education must confer upon a student – ‘Sath Pravarthana or Good Conduct’, ‘Sath Buddhi or Good Intellect’, ‘Sathya Nirathi or Truthfulness’, ‘Bhakti or Devotion’, ‘Dharma Seekshana or Discipline’ and ‘Kartavya Palana or Dutifulness’. Swami emphasised that of all the six, Devotion is the most powerful and important gift of education. Picking the thread from where Sri Narasimha Murthy left, Swami spoke about Prahalada, who could not be harmed by even the most powerful demon. The ‘Shakti’ of Hiranyakashipu could not stand in front of ‘Bhakti’ of Prahalada. Similarly Ravana could not harm a helpless Sita, despite being the most powerful demons of his times, adept in 64 kinds of knowledge and 10 heads! Kamsa also could not do anything to Lord Krishna. Meera Bhai’s husband could not do anything. Swami explained that in front of Bhakti, no Shakthi, Bhukti or Yukti can overpower. Without God, everyone is a hero, otherwise a big zero! “Have God, and you will have everything”, reiterated Swami.

Summary of Divine Discourse

June 05, 2016, Mudenahalli

For fire, heat is its nature. For water, coolness is its nature. For human beings, the true nature is love. But we need to understand love in its many ways and forms. The love between a mother and a child is maternal love, between husband and wife, it can be referred to as attachment. Between two friends, it is friendliness. The love between a teacher and student manifests as selfless service. These are all different lower forms of love but it is necessary to understand what true love is.

In true love, there is no question of giving and accepting. Love knows only giving and never receiving. Any love that expects something in return, cannot be true love. Only selfless love, which arises in our hearts spontaneously, flows towards everybody and serves everybody can be called true love. We do love others but once we desire something from the people whom we love, it cannot remain true love – it becomes attachment. We have taken this human birth in order to learn this true love. Love keeps expanding all the time and never contracts. Broadness of mind is a hallmark of true love. Love desires only one thing – happiness and joy of everyone.
