GURU PURNIMA CELEBRATIONS – JULY 18, 2016 (EVENING)
Monday, July 18, 2016
While the first day of the Guru Purnima Celebrations in Muddenahalli showcased the cultural extravaganza of the European countries, the second day was a celebration of the rich South Indian art and culture.
Bhagawan arrived a little after 6 PM to the beautifully bedecked Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham Hall, led by the students chanting Veda and the lilting rhythms of bhajans being sung in the background. The mere richness of the scene was enough to set the spiritual tone for the evening’s proceedings.
Once Bhagawan was seated on the dais, the programme officially commenced with the invocation prayer by the students of grade six and seven of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva educational institutions.
Dance and Drama
The next programme was a dance offering from the girl students of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar, Moosapet, Hyderabad. It was a classical dance bouquet, titled ‘Guru Devo Bhava: Salutations and offering to the Divine Guru, the Jagad Guru Swaroopa Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.’

A sense of festive fervour hung in the air as the students and devotees gathered in the majestic Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham Hall to celebrate the auspicious Guru Purnima, with their Guru and Lord, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. At around 10 am, Bhagawan was escorted into the hall by the boys’ brass band amidst Vedic chants and bhajans.
Veena Vahini
The morning programme commenced with a musical play that brought to fore the unifying strength that lay in music, dwelling on how music as a medium can lead one to the ultimate goal of oneness with the Supreme Lord. The play was interspersed with bhajans and devotional songs, rendered by musicians and senior alumni from the Sri Sathya Sai educational institutions. The entire performance, part of the new initiative ‘Veena Vahini’, was a treat to the ears and beautifully brought the entire audience together in a devotional crescendo.
Bhagawan then officially launched the Veena Vahini programme. It is a unique initiative, which will bring together musicians from diverse geographies, cultures, age and backgrounds in the spirit of unity and love. Music, as is widely known, is a very powerful unifying force....

GURU PURNIMA CELEBRATIONS - JULY 19, 2016 (EVENING)
Tuesday, July 19, 2016
The word Guru has two syllables- ‘Gu’ meaning darkness and ‘Ru’- the one who removes. Therefore, a Guru is one who dispels the darkness of ignorance. The festival of Guru Purnima, is observed to pay homage to the Guru. An offering of art and culture at the divine Lotus Feet of Bhagawan over the course of three days in Muddenahalli, to celebrate the festival of Gurupurnima, was a feast for the senses.
Bhagawan arrived at the Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham Hall at about 6 PM and was received with ceremonial Poornakumbham and Vedic chants. Sai’s Angels, the brass band of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Institutions, Muddenahalli campus led the procession, even as melodious bhajans continued to fill the air with bliss.
New Projects
Once Bhagawan ascended the dais, the evening session commenced with invocation by the students of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Pre- University College, Muddenahalli campus, with the chanting of the Sanyasa Suktam.
This was followed by the announcement of a new RO plant inaugurated earlier that day at Siddhahalli village (located at about three kilometers away from Muddenahalli). Under the auspices of the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust, the RO (reverse osmosis) plant will provide clean and pure drinking water, absolutely free of charge, to the villagers. A short presentation on the same was then screened.

How can you develop divine consciousness? – Summary of Divine Discourse on 19 July 2016
Today is Guru Purnima. It is not just the full moon day; it is the day of completeness, Purnam.
The light that emanates from the moon is not from the moon; it only reflects the light of the sun. The sun shines perfectly all the time, and moon reflects whatever light it gets from the sun perfectly. But because the earth comes in between, we are not always able to see the full shining moon. We see a similar waxing and waning in the mind too. When mind encounters success, it exults; when it meets with pain, it is in despair. Mind does not have its own power; it derives all its power from the Atma. The sun is the Atma, the moon is the mind; when body consciousness comes in between, the mind becomes full of darkness. When the mind is full of the Atmic feeling, it gives us the complete light of wisdom and fills us with bliss. When we keep the mind on the body, then it is full of darkness of ignorance. The inner significance of this Guru Purnima is for us to see to it that body consciousness does not intercede between the Atma and our mind.
If we want to diminish our body consciousness, the first step is to develop social consciousness. When you attain social consciousness, you can also attain divine consciousness – it is I to We, and We to He. If we try to do it, sometimes we may think it is not just possible. That is when the man who is filled with sorrow takes shelter at the feet of the Guru. Only those who experience it, can teach it to you.
On this Guru Purnima day, what is that we can offer to the Guru? Krishna said....
