"When you have God, who can grant you both devotion and liberation, why do you go after worldly life? You should also know what exactly to ask from God. He will give you whatever you ask. God resides in a mind, which is full of innocence and purity. Therefore, first and foremost, we have to give up our selfish desires. When you ask from God, ask for the welfare and happiness of everyone. From Svaartha (selfishness), we have to go to Paraartha (selfless service) and then go to Paramaartha (God)."
- Baba
With the Blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, we are delighted to present our Thirty Seventh issue of Ananda Vahini. The weekly newsletter includes interesting musings and short excerpts from the week's events.

In this week's issue, we bring you the highlights of continuation of Bhagawan's visit between
August 8 - August 10 to Bali and Indonesia.

Let no child ever go to school hungry! Ever! This was the motive when a group of working professionals came together by the Divine Command, to make a difference to the lives of school-going children in the rural areas near Bangalore. Little did they know that it would be a starting point of a movement that will grow and embrace thousands of children across the country! We bring you glimpses of the Annapoorna Breakfast Programme in this issue.

Sanathana Vani,
the online radio channel was launched in November 2015 during the 90th Birthday Celebrations of the Lord. Today, over 12,000 unique listeners from 70+ countries enjoy various programmes through the day. A new show 'My Lord & I' was launched by the Lord today, and we bring you details.

In this week's INNER-VIEW, Brother Madhusudan Naidu shares yet another interesting moment, when the Lord narrated a story from the Mahabharata. True wisdom straight from the innermost sanctum sanctorum of the direct Divine Presence!

INNER VIEW

-By Sri Madhusudan Naidu

During an interview recently, Swami explained as to why Krishna chose Arjuna over Dharmaraja, for granting the special grace of Bhagawad Gita and Viswaroopa Darshan. Dharmaraja was the eldest of the Pandavas, better than Arjuna in his adherence to Truth and Dharma, was wiser and more learned. Yet the grace was bestowed upon Arjuna.

To explain the reason, Swami narrated the story wherein Krishna and Arjuna were taking a walk in a forest when Krishna spotted a crow but remarked, "What a beautiful peacock!" Arjuna agreed and said, "Yes it is a beautiful peacock indeed."

Krishna chided Arjuna and said, "Can't you see it's a crow and not a peacock". Arjuna replied, " Oh Yes! It is a crow in fact."

Krishna further scolded Arjuna, "Don't you have eyes to see and know which bird is that? Why do you agree to whatever I say?"

Arjuna replied, "Lord! You are omnipotent; you can change a  peacock in to a crow, and vice versa with a mere thought. Who am I to decide what it is, when you are there to tell me?"

Swami said, "ARJUNA LIVED BY HIS HEART, AS HIS MIND WAS TOTALLY SURRENDERED TO KRISHNA. THEREFORE, HE ENJOYED THIS GRACE. Where as on the other hand, when in the midst of the battle of Kurukshetra, the Guru of Pandavas and Kauravas, Dronacharya, was invincible and could not be defeated. Krishna played a Leela.

Krishna knew that the best of Dronacharya's disciple, Arjuna also was not taught all the skills by his own Guru, and so was incapable of defeating him. On the other hand, being the teacher of Arjuna, Dronacharya knew all the skills and moves of Arjuna, and by merely seeing the position of Arjuna's hands aiming the arrow, he would know what would be the fate of that shot. Therefore, the only way to defeat Dronacharya was to make him give up his arms. This was possible only if Dronacharya learnt that his son Ashwathama was killed in the battle, which would dishearten him from fighting any further. So Krishna asked Bhima to kill an elephant named Ashwathama, and asked Dharmaraja to declare loudly , "Ashwathama Hatah Kunjara" (the elephant Ashwathama is killed).

As Dharmaraja declared this, Krishna blue his conch due to which Dronacharya could not hear the word 'elephant' and assumed that his son Ashwathama was killed. Drona was aware that Dharmaraja who declared this is the very embodiment of truth so this must be true. He fell on his knees disappointed with the news and gave up the arms. At this moment, Arjuna slayed him. Thus Drona was killed.

However, when everyone rejoiced at this victory, Dharmaraja was sad. On inquiry, Krishna found that Dharmaraja felt He has cheated his Guru, as he had to utter a lie at the command of Krishna, which caused his death.

Krishna consoled him that he never uttered a lie, and so should not feel guilty. But, Dharmaraja could not be convinced, for he had too much of his mind with him. Since Dharmaraja, the most virtuous one used his mind and not the heart, he doubted Krishna and had to see hell for this one act."

Swami concluded, "Let's live with our hearts when we are with Him, the Lord, and keep our mind absolutely surrendered. Know for sure that whatever He says is Truth and Whatever He does is Dharma!"

Lesson taught!

DIVINE VISIT – UBUD, INDONESIA

Day Four – Monday, August 08, 2016 - Siddharthani Ashram

After a wonderful breakfast which was served with much devotion and reverence to their Master, Bhagawan spoke to the Seva volunteers in an intimate session, which was infused with pure and whole hearted love for Bhagawan. There was not a dry eye in the room when the Lord announced that very soon a Medical Centre would commence very close to Sai Pooja Ashram – ‘Sai Pooja Hospital’. Doctors from the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Raipur will travel to Bali to perform pediatric cardiac surgeries! The outpour of love and gratitude in the form of tears was over powering and every single person who sat there was totally and completely engulfed. This can happen only and ONLY in the presence of God. Swami answered many questions and after a tearful farewell and Arati, the Lord proceeded to Ubud to Siddhartani Ashram, venue for the two-day Asia Pacific Sai Youth Meet 2016.

The blessed land of Bali has not one, but two haloed Ashrams, a great blessing for every devotee who seeks spiritual rejuvenation and enlightenment. Siddharthani Ashram is a beautiful retreat which has been the result of the dedication and vision of Mr Desmond and his devout wife Mrs Roslyna. Swami visited the Ashram during His visit in March 2016 and lovingly performed the official inauguration. The beautiful Ashram...

DIVINE VISIT – UBUD, INDONESIA

Day Five – Tuesday, August 09, 2016 - Siddharthani Ashram

Day Five in Bali witnessed the concluding session of the Asia Pacific Sai Youth Meet 2016. The day started around 9:30 am, when Bhagawan came to the packed venue. Before entering, the Lord inaugurated two mobile medical vans, which will be used for seva in Ubud and Bali. Bhagawan entered the ‘Prasanthi Hall’ in the midst of wonderful Bhajans. The morning session commenced with two youth speakers, who shared their journey of transformation. Brother Toshi Ando, an architect from Japan who has actively involved in many Seva projects, shared his experiences on how the path to Swami had been one of love and compassion. These two ingredients had also allowed him to stay focused on everything he was doing. He spoke of his own initiation into service activities when an opportunity opened up to serve in a school. He felt all doors had closed on him when Swami left His physical body. It was around this time when he came in touch with Mr Issac Tigrett and the project of building a spiritual school and self sustaining community. Brother Toshi said he felt Swami’s presence in the project and this replaced the hollowness he had felt, and thereafter he found a new purpose through the Guru Vikas teachers training programme.

The second delegate speaker was Brother Sunil Naidu, a Senior Manager at Newscorp, Australia, who continues to play an active role in Swami’s mission in Australia. He began by recollecting Swami’s instructions to the Youth Leaders in November 2015 to work on oneself, and he recalled how that had motivated the youth in the region to go deeper into...

DIVINE VISIT – KUALA LAMPUR, MALAYSIA – AUGUST 10, 2016

The last leg of the trip culminated in Malaysia, where the students accompanying Bhagawan had another opportunity to catch a glimpse of the manifold manifestation of the Lord’s unravelling mission yet again. The kindled souls in distant lands are doing yeoman service in educare, healthcare and sociocare!

Bhagawan’s entourage arrived at the Kuala Lampur International Airport around 5pm on August 10, and were lovingly welcomed by the energetic Sai Youth. The drive from the Airport to the residence of Sri Ayavoo and Smt Vimala was almost an hour. The devout couple have been the fulcrum of all Seva activity being done through the Sai Ananda Ashram in Kuala Lumpur for over two decades now.

As soon as everyone reached the residence, there was a small Satsang, with the core team of Sai Ananda. On Bhagawan’s command, Brother Ayavoo welcomed the entourage to Malaysia on behalf of all the devotees. Requesting Bhagawan to bless those gathered with His divine message, he prayed to the Lord to keep the Malaysian devotees close to his heart.

On Bhagawan’s cue, Sri Narasimha Murthy addressed....

Who is a true Bharatiya?
Summary of Divine Discourse on 15 August, 2016

Today, we are celebrating 70 years of independent life. But we can celebrate any number of Independence Days without really understanding its true meaning. True freedom is freedom from selfishness.

Who is a true Bharatiya? A true Bharatiya is a person who has filled his heart with love for God and enjoys the divine bliss of God in himself. Indian culture is founded on this devotion to God. Devotion to God does not mean going to a temple and worshiping an idol. Indian culture proclaims that the human body is the temple of God and the indweller Himself is God. What is the true path of devotion? In fact, loving and serving everyone and giving them joy and happiness is the best way of devotion.

“Even if you give Me a flower, a leaf, a fruit or a drop of water, if it is offered with devotion, I will accept it with love,” is a Shloka from the Bhagavad Gita. The body is given to us in order to walk on the path of Dharma. Therefore, we have to offer the leaf of our body to God. Any heart bereft of compassion cannot be really called a Hrudaya. What we have to offer to God is the flower of our heart, filled with compassion. Similarly, the fruit we should offer God....
