Looking forward to see you all at this month's meeting, Wednesday October 26.  We only have 2 meetings left this year.  Remember, we don't meet in December.  Please consider being on the board next year.  We'll discuss the changes in the officer positions.  See in this newsletter the redefined positions.

TPSG Sept Meeting Minutes
Kay called the meeting to order and asked if everyone got the newsletter. Asked if the meeting needed and if any correction was needed. No correction offered, asked that the minutes be accepted as printed, Janet Pharris made the motion and Ralph Tobin seconded the motion.
  • No old business.
  • New business, next meeting in Oct is prior to Halloween and Nov meeting is after Thanksgiving. March gallery night 2017 so the mini show will be the Nov meeting.
  • Some changes to rules will be voted on in Oct.
    • Several shows the winners of the mini show have ended up unable to participate. So new rule if the artist that wins the mini show must be in the show.
    • Only one winner, if you win the mini show your piece will be donated to the guild and you will be given your space for free in the show.
    • Problems with delays for the photos etc. have been an issue with artist failing to follow through. Advertising is important to promote the show so new rules will help support that goal.
    • Some discussion regarding the reason for the failure to follow thru with past artist.
    • Mini show will feature the winner and an alternate/back up piece will also be selected in the event it is needed.  Discussion regarding the one piece only might not be the right way to go, more is better. So maybe two pieces would be better. The winner and the alternate both on the postcard.
    • Anyone that is the winner in the mini show and does not participate in the show will be barred from the next mini show. Not the show just the mini show.
  • Additional marketing through social media is being done and every artist is encouraged to promote as well. A commitment is needed from each member to not only like the posts, but to share them as well.
  • Discussion regarding advertising, cards, posters, brochures all needed as well as Facebook pages to talk about the shows.
  • Ron had actually sent out two emails the first one with the post card and the second mailing with photos of all the artist’s work.
  • Call for artist on TPSG Facebook will be going out 10-1, we have about 11 or 12 signed up with 24 spots in the front galley at the FWCAC.
    • Both Ralph and Janet will promote the show at their respective colleges.
    • TPSG website has all the forums needed.
  • Discussion regarding membership fees, suggestion is that whenever the member joins they will pay on an annual basis not just all in January. New members only was a suggestion.
    • A vote will be taken next month.
  • Ron has been working on updating the TPSG website.  The member’s gallery has been cleaned out and updated with new photos. 
  • Suggestion from Pat Conner with American Ceramics that some pieces be left on display in her store in order to promote the show. Asked that some pots be organized and brought to her. Make sure it is priced in the event someone wants to purchase.  Shelf space and wall space pieces are welcome. Ron Hollister and Cynthia Brinson will participate in October. Glass artists are welcome as well.
  • Ralph talked about Best of Texas Clay. Bonnie Hodges, Martha Gordan and Karmien Bowman at TCC will be on the committee with Doris Brown, Karen Brown and Kay Bernier from TPSG with Ralph Tobin as the committee head.
    • Only one judge for the next show. Melba Northum is the proposed judge, her bio was passed around. Meetings can be at TCC and need to begin, Oct will be first meeting. P/R office will be helping with advertising. If show goes well we could have an ongoing spot in library for years to come. Everyone was comfortable with Melba Northum as the judge.
  • Call for board members all spots are open anyone willing is welcome.
Kay adjourned the meeting.


Upcoming Paint Dates at HART STREET POTTERY for 2016-17:   November 9, 10; No December date; 2017: January 11, 12, February 8, 9; Empty Bowls: Friday, February 17, 2017   

Other options for painting bowls:  Texas Clay and Pottery,  Haltom City, contact Jill Davis for arrangements. They are painting the 4th Wednesday of the month from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and the fourth Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. For exact dates call ahead.  They can accommodate larger groups, BUT YOU  MUST CALL AHEAD OF TIME. Making and/or painting bowls can also be done at Front Porch Pottery, contact Teresa Sanchez.  

2017 TPSG Board Positions Redefined:

  • Provide overall direction for the Guild
  • Develop an annual business plan
  • Direct Board meetings
  • Identify and implement benefits for being a member, such as discounts from local pottery supplies
  • Solicit sponsors such as suppliers, Tarrant Area Food Bank, etc.
  • Facilitate member monthly meetings
  • Participate on all committees as needed
1st Vice President - Membership
  • Solicit new members in accordance with the bylaws
  • Welcome and communication with new members, coordinate with the Treasurer as needed
  • Solicit artist bio information and pictures of their work for the Marketing VP to add to the website and use to advertise for shows
  • Arrange and manage meeting facilities
  • Record meeting minutes
  • Communicate to the members non-show related opportunities, such as things for sale or donation opportunities
  • Assist the Education VP in soliciting presenters for member meetings
  • Annual survey of the membership
  • Coordinate special events for the membership such the Christmas party
2nd Vice President – Education
  • Plan for and manage workshops
  • Arrange programs for member monthly meetings
  • Coordinate with Marketing VP on upcoming events and guest speakers
3rd Vice President – Marketing
  • Manage the Guild’s website
  • Manage Facebook and other social media marketing efforts
  • Coordinate with other Board members in support of their responsibilities
  • Preparation and publication of the Guild’s newsletter
  • Direct efforts for engaging the public such as participation at the Main Street Arts Festival and the display at American Ceramics
  • Manage patron and newsletter mailing list
4th Vice President – Shows and Sales
  • Manages all Guild sponsored shows and sales
  • Recruits artists for shows and sales
  • Research potential new venues
  • Develop marketing plan for Guild sponsored shows and sales and coordinates with Marketing VP on execution of the plan
  • Direct Best of Texas Clay efforts
  • Manages all financial transactions
  • Responsible for business structure, LLC, non-profit, etc.
  • File tax returns
  • Tracks member anniversary dates
  • Provide direction and management of banking instruments, such as PayPal and accepting credit cards
