"Big Brothers Big Sisters allows so many children to be a part of something that enriches their lives. But at the same time, the Bigs (Kӓnaka na ‘auao) who give back are also greatly rewarded."

Not everyone can be a Big, but anyone can help sponsor a "match" between a Big and a Little. Click HERE for more information about how to become a monthly donor and change a life today.

Island Scoops (from Hawaii Island, Oahu, Kauai & Maui)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii Island
Little Sister Gloria and Big Sister Fran spent the summer attending a wood working class together at Laupahoehoe Public Charter School - the pair has grown not only in their techniques, but also in their closeness!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu
On Saturday, July 9th, the Locations Foundation sponsored their 11th Annual Movie Day, inviting 200 guests from Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys & Girls Club. Not only did the Foundation generously provide free admission, a snack and a goody bag for each guest, but they also surprised both organizations by presenting each with a $5,000 check! The Locations Foundation members truly are Community Angels who give back and support dozens of community projects and organizations throughout the entire year. A BIG Hip Hip Hooray for the Locations Foundation!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kauai
In July we joined the “Mauka to Makai” Bully-Free Kauai campaign to increase community awareness that bullying is NOT tolerated in Kauai schools and in our communities. Please join us in our efforts to make Kauai 100% bully free!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui
On July 11th we launched our Summer Food Service Program - the first of its kind for residents in the Hale Makana O Waiale community. The Maui Mentor Center was chosen by the Maui Food Bank to host this program to serve 25 hot, nutritious meals prepared by Pizza In Paradise to youth between the ages of 5-18. Many of the kids in our program go without lunch during the summer, so this program helps makes sure they have plenty of energy to play!

Mahalos (we couldn't do what we do without YOU!)

Mahalo to Kauai’s  FM ’97 Radio Ohana for selecting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kauai as the beneficiary for their sales promotion taking place now through September 30.  We have already received many calls and inquiries from families and volunteers who would like to join our program.  We appreciate John, Val, BB Choi, Ron and the entire team at FM ’97 for their support of our mission as we provide quality mentoring to Kauai’s keiki!

On July 22, each senior from Kaunoa Senior Services' Retired & Senior Volunteer Program was matched with a child for the day at our Maui Mentor Center. Pairs read, played games like Bingo and Checkers, and designed their own kites to fly on the basketball court together. Their time ended with a delicious lunch and an ice cream party. We look forward to partnering with the seniors again!

In addition to being "Mentors for the Day,"  Kaunoa Senior Services hosted a School Supply Drive to collect various supplies, backpacks, and basic hygiene products for our youth. Mahalo for helping our families start the school year on a positive note!

Mahalo to the United Stangs 808 and Black Kings car clubs for sponsoring a car wash for Big Brothers Big Sisters. In spite of the uncooperative weather from Tropical Storm Darby, the event still raised over $600! Special thanks to Big Sister Jaisa Minor, Big Sister Sam Scagnamiglio, and Little Sister Shalei who braved the threatening rains to come out to support the event anyways!

Kukui Grove’s 2nd Annual Back to School Bash and School Supplies Give-Away was a huge success, with nearly 1400 bags of school supplies distributed!  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kauai joined in the Kids Fun Zone with some arts and crafts activities for the keiki. Here’s Match Coach Nicole demonstrating how to make a Sun Dial during the day’s activities.
Mahalo to Maui Flatbread Company for hosting a benefit night on July 12, where a portion of the proceeds from every flatbread sold went to support our Maui mentoring programs. Click HERE to see a short interview on Akaku 55.
Former Big Brother Edgar Tomas donated baseball equipment for our Hale Makana youth. Mahalo to Edgar for helping our kids play and enjoy this summer even more!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kauai was out bright and early for Kauai United Way’s annual Fundraising Golf Tournament. We appreciate the Kauai United Way and all of the golfers that participated in support of all the agencies. Here’s a few of our matches waving a “Mahalo” to the golfers as they headed out for the day.
