How would you feel if you received these 6 compliments every single day?  What if these words came from someone that you knew well?  Would it change the value of the message?

Now imagine that you are also hearing 24 insults or "not good enough" comments in the same time period?  Most likely, the 80% to 20% ratio would outweigh and out influence the positives. For reference, the Cleveland Clinic states, "95% of our 60K thoughts a day are repeated and 80% of these are NEGATIVE."

Because these negative thoughts are being told to us by someone we know well (ourselves and in our own voice), we tend to believe the message. 

Try this exercise instead.  Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, write it down.  Then identify if this notion is USEFUL;  YES or NO.  The majority of the time, it will serve no purpose.  On the rare occasion that it motivates you, reminds you, or inspires you, USE it for POSITIVE GAINS.

A second way to approach negative thoughts (thank you Belk) is to put them into perspective by asking "Will it matter in five?"  Five years, five days, five minutes, or five seconds.  This too shall pass.  Realize these thoughts early and eliminate them from populating your mind.  You are far too busy with positive thinking to be bothered...
