Happy Spring from
Breakthrough Twin Cities!

BTC NEWS
On March 1, BTC hosted a Meet and Greet for Executive Director Josh Reimnitz at Macalester, and the event was a success! Guests heard from Josh, Board Chair Anne Petersen, and Maurice Fields, a remarkable BTC student alumn attending Concordia University. Many thanks to all who attended! If you weren't able to attend and would like to connect with Josh, you email him here.

UPDATES AND HIGHLIGHTS
BTC middle schoolers attended two Saturday events last month: a college visit at Macalester and a Super Saturday session. At Macalester, middle schoolers interacted with first-generation college students and learned about the day-to-day life of a college student. It was a blast!
At Super Saturday, hosted at both Saint Paul Central (SPC) and Mounds Park Academy (MPA) on February 25, middle schoolers got to reconnect with each other, participate in activities related to BTC's Codes for College Success, and even compete in a video challenge! Check out the MPA site's video on why students love BTC here. Thank you to all of our volunteers who transported students and led the session - we couldn't have done this successfully without you!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
BTC is piloting a new Graduation Book Drive, and we need your help! Each year we make graduation packages for our seniors, and this year we’re sending them off with an extra something special to get their college libraries started. We are looking for books from the traditional as well as the developing multicultural canon. Interested in getting involved? Sign up here by April 15 to participate!

STUDENT STORY FEATURE
Mordecai, a current 8th grader at Saint Paul City School, has been one of our most enthusiastic students at the MPA site over his past two summers. He is incredibly engaged in the classroom and always has a voracious appetite for learning.
Despite challenges, Mordecai has developed an exceptional optimism and shows remarkable passion for BTC. “Breakthrough is life changing. Everybody is so comfortable with having each other around and I love the good vibes radiating from one another. No one is here for drama, but to learn and grow.” His passion and persistence has paid off: on March 5, Mordecai received the Malone scholarship and will be attending MPA for high school! Congratulations, Mordecai!

PROGRAM PARTNER FEATURE
We would like to thank Mounds Park Academy this month for their incredible support of BTC students and staff that MPA has provided since BTC's founding in 2005. From offering in-kind office and program space (a summer site, Super Saturdays, and more) to sponsoring our annual gala, MPA's support is endless! We truly can't thank you enough, MPA!

Kudos to our program partner, Mounds Park Academy!
