International Women’s Day Coffee Break
The MFRC will be hosting the International Woman’s Day Coffee Break on Friday, March 6 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The coffee break will include a speaker from the Woman’s Resource Centre and the presentation of the Woman in the Workplace video. There will also be a collection box for clothing donations to the Brandon Woman’s Shelter.

2SLGBTQ+ Diversity & Inclusion Training for Parents, Teens & Community Members
SERC Brandon’s LGBT2SQ+ Program Facilitator will bring information and activities to facilitate a discussion with teens and parents about what identity is and how human sexuality can impact identity on many levels. This workshop will also break down the difference between sex, gender, and sexual orientation. We will work together to define what these identities mean to us and what it means for someone to "come out" to us. To conclude we will discuss how to show respect and get along with people that may be different from us. *children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent*

ACC Police Studies, Community Policing Project group has generously funded and designed a program for families and children experiencing a deployment. Join them at the MFRC to decorate, fill and wrap your own morale mail parcel to send to a loved one overseas (member can already be gone or leaving soon!). All the goodies are provided! As a bonus, inside of each parcel we will include photos on a USB of your family preparing the parcel.

Any occasion where your military partner is away for 30 days or more on; course: IR,
training or operational duty, regardless of location.

R2MR Phase III Pre-Deployment Workshop 
The Road to Mental Readiness Pre-Deployment workshop is a mental health program that identifies common challenges associated with separation, normalizes the emotional cycles of deployment, explains mental health as a continuum, provides tools for managing stress and tips to better support children during deployment. Available one-on-one or in a group setting, the pre-deployment workshop offers family members the opportunity to ask questions, express concerns and learn from others who have experienced a deployment. Supper and onsite childcare provided.

Youth Programs

All youth programs will take place at the Youth Centre, unless otherwise indicated.

 


YOUTH CENTRE

Youth Centre Membership
Youth Centre membership will give your child access to our drop-in times as well as some planned programs at no additional cost! Drop in times will be mostly un-structured, with a variety of activities for your child to participate in, including our canteen (extra cost). Planned activities can be found on our Youth Programs calendar which is available on the Shilo MFRC Youth Programs Facebook page and also the MFRC website. Other programs including field trips and most non-drop in programs will have an additional charge - see calendar and program description for more details (a monthly calendar is available on the
cafconnection website).  

Please note: Youth Centre Drop In offers a variety of activities including organized activities, crafts, board games, various builders and monitored screen time. Example of a Drop In night includes: structured activity for the first half, free time/child’s choice for the second half with various options including Xbox and Xbox Kinect games.

The cost of a Youth Centre membership for one year (September-August):
Kindergarten-grade 6: $25
Grades 7-12: $15
Drop in fee: $2

You will always have the option of paying a drop in fee, but the membership is the most cost efficient way to go! Membership fees can be paid at MFRC reception during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm); or at the Youth Centre during drop in times (
cheque or exact cash only).

Membership forms must be completed prior to your child attending any Youth Centre drop in program.

Tumbleweeds Playgroup
This is a drop in program for children to run, tumble and jump. This program runs Tuesdays from September to June. If weather permits we will be outside.

Baby Club
Please join Kirstin and other moms with their little ones every Thursday. This facilitated group will have games, crafts, and a place to enjoy the company of others with some special speakers along the way, and remember we are on baby time so late comers are always welcome and you can leave when needed.
